Kinder SPARK!
KinderSPARK! Overview
The KinderSPARK! Program is designed to support a smooth and positive transition into Kindergarten. The program is offered to all families with children age four or five who are scheduled to enter Kindergarten next September. Parents attend the program with their children once a week for four weeks, 90 minutes each session. The program runs in the spring, and is held in elementary schools on the Sunshine Coast.
During the program, families have the opportunity to engage in fun activities designed celebrate the strengths that each child brings! Families become familiar with the school, and the excitement of visiting the kindergarten room, library, gym and playground. Children have the opportunity to meet other children the same age, and families get to know other families in their local neighbourhood school.
The KinderSPARK! Program represents a partnership between School District 46 – Sunshine Coast, Community Schools and Vancouver Coastal Health. Visitors to the program can include the Community Dental Hygienist, a Public Health Nurse, and the School and Community Librarians.
Families have the opportunity to ask questions and learn about early child development and the Kindergarten program, and schools have the opportunity to meet the families prior to the first day of school in September.
Families must register in order to attend. The program is offered free of charge to all families who live on the Sunshine Coast.
This year we are also offering ‘SPARK! to Kindergarten’ – three virtual sessions for parents with children entering Kindergarten next September. Sessions focus on how to support a positive transition
