S.P.A.R.K! – ‘Supporting Parents Along the Road to Kindergarten’ – Beginning at birth, families and child care providers can attend a 90 minute SPARK! class once every fall, winter and spring until their child enters Kindergarten.
In SPARK! we reflect on how children learn and grow. At each SPARK! class participants receive free information, handouts and TOYS designed to support learning at each age and stage. Parents and child care providers can also register for the Dolly Parton Imagination Library at SPARK!, which mails a FREE, age-appropriate book to their children every month until their fifth birthday.
The SPARK! program is founded on a philosophy that learning happens naturally, through the experiences, relationships and joy that families and caregivers share with their children. We enjoy the opportunity to gather together with others who have children the same age to exchange ideas and celebrate learning and growth.
Free childminding is provided on-site for children over 12 months old. Children newborn to 12 months old are welcome to stay with their families.
Register NOW! for upcoming sessions. Families and child care providers must register to ensure we bring enough toys and handouts to the sessions.
The SPARK! Program provides learning opportunities for parents and caregivers with children under the age of five. An addition to this program, designed to complete the cycle, is called ‘SPARK! 10’. In SPARK! 10 all Grade 10 students in the district develop an understanding of the uniqueness of the early years, and the factors that impact future health, learning and behaviour. The students attend in-class sessions and then apply their skills by working with the young children who attend StrongStart Early Learning centres. This approach ensures that all students who graduate from the district have an understanding of how to best support young children.
